Suzhou District of Jiuquan has more than 30 years of onion planting history. Due to the fertile soil, abundant sunshine, large temperature difference and unique climate, the onion is beautiful in appearance (similar to spherical shape), single heart rate is very high, taste is strong, tender and firm. The dry matter content is high, the quality, color and flavor are obviously superior to other onion producing areas, so it is favored by domestic and foreign merchants, mainly including shepherd boy, Fuxing, Hongbao 905, California prince, Huangpi 02 and so on. After more than 30 years of development, the district has become the second largest onion planting base after Shandong, enjoying a high reputation in the domestic and foreign markets.

Origin of the environment Jiuquan is located in the east longitude, between 39°10′~39°59′ north latitude and 1340 meters to 2200 meters above sea level. Jiuquan climate resources are characterized by strong solar radiation, abundant sunshine, cold winter and cool summer, large temperature difference between day and night, short frost-free period, less precipitation, dry climate and significant vertical difference in climate. The annual sunshine hours are 3033 - 3317 hours. The annual average temperature is 5-8 °C, the frost-free period is 140-160 days, and the annual precipitation is 50-200 mm. Therefore, onions are of good quality, high in dry matter and resistant to storage.

Technical requirements for quality quality of Jiuquan onion (1) Variety. Yellow-skinned, purple-skin-shaped long-day fresh food. (2) Site conditions. Within the protected area, the sea level is 1400m to 1800m, the soil type is desert soil, the texture is loam, the soil pH is 7.5 to 8.0, the soil organic matter content is ≥1.25%, and the alkali nitrogen is ≥44.0ppm. (3) Cultivation management. 1. Nursery: Seedlings are grown in solar greenhouses or plastic greenhouses. The sowing period is from mid-January to early February, and the seeding density is ≤1500 per square meter. The seedling age is 60 to 70 days, the plant height is 12 cm to 15 cm, and the pseudo stem diameter is 0.7 to 0.9 cm. 2. Colonization: (1) It is required to plant onions and other onion and garlic vegetables for three years. (2) Colonization time: from late March to early April. (3) Density: 336,000 to 381,000 plants/ha of large spherical varieties, and 525,000 to 570,000 plants per hectare. (4) Depth: 1 cm to 1.5 cm. 3. Fertilization: base fertilizer application of organic fertilizer ≥ 65000kg / hectare. 4. Irrigation: Overall grasp the principle of shallow irrigation and shallow watering, 7 to 8 times in the whole life. Watering was stopped 10 to 15 days before harvest. 5. Environmental and safety requirements: The use of pesticides, fertilizers, etc. must comply with relevant national regulations and must not pollute the environment. (4) Harvest. 1. Harvest time: Early maturing varieties are from mid-August to early September, and late-maturing varieties are from mid-September to early October. The maturity marker is that 70% of the plant's pseudostems are soft and lodging. 2. The harvesting selection is carried out on a sunny day. It is required to dig the whole plant with the hoe, and then dry it for 1 to 2 days after shaking off the soil. Leave the artificial stem 2cm and cut off the upper stem and leaf.
